I like this book series overall. The writing is good, the characters are likable, and the setting (a marina in Redwood City, California) is great. I like that most of the key characters are in their late thirties. This story progresses the relationship between Nikki the Private Investigator and her detective boyfriend as well as other friends.If you’re a fan of the series, the main storyline for this book is simply delicious. It rolled out unexpectedly and terrifically. A while back, I suffered through Murder A La Carte (Book 4), which dealt with pedophilia and featured a lot of graphic violence, but this book, which is a follow-up, makes up for my suffering.
If you haven’t read any of the books in the series, I highly recommend first reading Murder A La Carte (Book 4) and Murder Served Hot (Book 5) because this storyline is a follow-up (to book 4, in particular) and you will better understand the shades of gray relationship between Nikki and the key villain in this story.
I totally enjoyed the unfolding of the story and it had a good ending, including a confidentiality issue between Nikki and her boyfriend.
There is some graphic violence, no graphic sex, and a handful of eff words that fit the story.
For the series, I give it 4 gold stars. For this particular book, I give it 5.

Great book .. but it ended way too soon. I have read everything by Nancy Skopin that I can get my hands on .. but I do not like that the women are aisle in all of the positions of power. I realize that there are many female titans of business, but that doesn’t mean that every one in a book has to be female!

This edition of the series picks up exactly where the last left off.
This isn't necessarily a happy book. Nikki finds herself keeping yet another secret from Bill and she is terrified he will find out. When part of what she is keeping secret becomes headline news, her terror of losing Bill reaches a crescendo. will Bill find out?
Nikki gets a client whose son is being threatened. She wants Nikki as a sort of bodyguard to look after him secretly. Although the woman is the mother, she is not exactly what she seems. The story takes a turn. Very good writing and the story flows.
I thoroughly enjoy this whole series. I like the way she investigates and has a personal life, too. I would enjoy having her as a friend. This story is a little short but I still enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next story.
This series is awesome, & this seventh addition does not disappoint! You get suspense, romance, & a great story line. Love that Nikki lives on a boat & is an honest to goodness P.I. that uses her brains to solve her cases. It certainly captured my attention from beginning to end!
I have become such a Nikki Hunter fan. I thought the first book was terrific and hoped for more, and I can't get enough.. I have read each new addition to the series with ever increasing pleasure and admiration. The character grows in so many ways, yet always remains true to herself and to life. The pacing in this book, the 7th, is especially crafty, full of quick turns and surprises. I love it, that's all, and hope Nancy Skopin gets on with number 8.
Nikki, is with a client, with the vivid details, we can image this woman, the reason, someone is out to kill her son. Based solely on the fact he seemed nervous and looking out the window, and seeing a woman with crazy eyes. Son needs a body guard, the hand shake with her, spelled danger. Nikki is busy 24/7 with observing differently employees, she is in love with Bill. People get killed, employees are fired, she is keeping a big secret from Bill. Her friends are many and loyal. The plot has many jobs that Nikki does, they are never dull. Always enjoy her books.
